The furthest civ in the Deadstar system, Phirnaut boasts itself as a spacer’s paradise, perfect for getting away from the turmoil present throughout the rest of the system.

Originally a massive starport constructed during the Spacer War to service the explosion of independent contractors in the area, the port was known for its kitsch novelties and inviting atmosphere. Though, time was unkind to the once beloved landmark. As spacing waned in popularity in the mid 3050’s, so too did Phirnaut. The station soon fell into disrepair and neglect. Though all was not lost for Phirnaut — Just as the company decided to sell the port for parts, a group of eccentric anarcho-seperatists swooped in, looking for the perfect place to run away to.

The Lovenaut Collective (formerly the “Freedom Union of Carefree Kindness”) was founded during the height of the Kørtisian conflict. The group was formed primarily by Æntezian and Gärbo diaspora, who had fled their respective civs to dodge the war’s mandatory conscription. The first headquarters of the group was a small commune outside Kemiiv (then The Stalbez Mining Settlement). The members of the collective found Stalbez to be an overly harsh environment to survive. The situation was not helped by the Stalbez Mining Company’s tremendously un-mellow attitude and total lack of critical support. All hope seemed lost when the collective was asked to vacate their commune by Stalbez authorities (citing: sanitation issues, tax evasion, illegal weapons, unsafe conditions for minors, and other bogus charges). But then a radical thing happened, the grooviest (and most free from government oversight) home in the system became available for a fraction of its actual worth: Phirnaut. Overnight, the Freedom Union of Carefree Kindness became the “Lovenauts" (a more worthy title for their new home). The rest, as they say, is history.

Phirnaut is now one of the largest trade hubs for independent merchants in Deadstar. The space port’s location makes it a convenient stop for starships to refuel on their journeys throughout the star system, as it lies outside the jurisdiction of both the Nouvieux Trade Federation and the Sovkòs Union, meaning traders and spacers alike can dodge pesky taxes passed down by big government. The lack of a formal government also allows free trade of otherwise restricted vices. Phirnaut boasts the greatest density of marketplaces, canteens, and shipyards in this corner of the galaxy, making it a popular destination for travellers far and wide. According to Lovenauts’ founding principles, private interest groups, and government entities are forbidden from operating businesses within Phirnaut; although, over the years, leniency amongst Lovenaut’s leaders has grown regarding private interest.

As the Nouvieux’s influence has spread throughout the system, so too has their endless need for consumerism and mass manufacturing. Seeking a new untapped market (and salivating at the prospect of tax-free commerce), many corporations have begun to encroach on Phirnaut… A development which could spell the end of an era for the port civ’s vibe-based eco system.
