GIMMICKS

A spacer may choose Gimmicks from previous Tiers but may not choose the same Gimmick twice.

Obtained at levels three, five, seven, nine, and every level past ten.

TIER ONE GIMMICKS

(OBTAINED AT LEVEL THREE)

This spacer increases one (1) statistic by two (2) points or two (2) statistics by one (1) point each. This GIMMICK can be chosen multiple times.

SKILLED

“Super green.”

This spacer gains the Trained status for a weapon of their choice. A Trained spacer may choose to use special actions before making an attack with weapons they are Trained in. This GIMMICK can be chosen multiple times.

WEAPON TRAINING

“I don't know what it's called, I just know the sound it makes when it takes a man’s life.”

Once per breather, provided this spacer has a hot plate and ingredients, they may make a number of food items equal to the number of spacers in their crew. Ingredients can either be purchased from a vendor or scavenged from their environment. These food items allow a lifeform to regain an Injury Level [IL]. Consumption of multiple food items crafted by one or more spacer chefs do not stack.

CHEF

“Your body is not a temple, it’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.”

Before making a ranged attack, this spacer may use a minor action to Gain the Edge on the attack.

DEADEYE

“Okey dokey, Annie Oakley.”

Before making a melee attack, this spacer may choose to subtract five (5) from their total damage to bypass the target’s Damage Threshold [DT].

SURGEON

“Measure twice, cut once.”

This spacer does not Lose the Edge when making attacks beyond their weapon’s EFFECTIVE range.

SHARPSHOOTER

“Could shoot the wings off a fly.”

When making a Test or Resist related to piloting a vehicle, rather than reflex, this spacer may roll the statistic of their choice.

MAVERICK

“You can be my wingman any time.”

If they can see the stars, this spacer Gains the Edge on Tests related to navigation. In addition, this spacer Gains the Edge on aptitude Tests made to recall information regarding astronomy.

STARGAZER

“Happy trails.”

When this spacer hits with an attack, they may forgo dealing damage to instead have their target receive the DISRUPTED status. If this spacer uses this Gimmick while making an unarmed attack without a weapon Deployed they may choose to instead apply the BLIND status to the target until the beginning of this spacer’s next turn.

FIGHT DIRTY

“Pocket sand!”

Once per Breather, when this spacer would otherwise fail a Test related to speech, they may reroll the Test. When this spacer uses this Gimmick they must accept the new result.

QUICK TALKER

“You silver-tongued devil, you.”

If this spacer’s perception statistic is below ten (10), while wearing spectacles or equipment with the ZOOM FX, their perception statistic counts as ten (10).

FOUR-EYES

“I can’t see a thing without my glasses!”

This spacer Loses the Edge on all cool Tests and Resists involving speech but Gains the Edge on all aptitude Tests and Resists involving information recall.

NERD

“I collect mold, spores, and fungus.”

This spacer Loses the Edge on all aptitude Tests and Resists involving information recall but Gains the Edge on all cool Tests and Resists involving speech.

FOOL

“Ignorance is bliss.”

This spacer Gains The Edge on attacks targeting beasts. In addition, this spacer Gains The Edge on any test related to locating a target.

STALKER

“It’s got big, nasty teeth.”

This spacer scores a Critical Hit on a natural 18 or higher and a Critical Miss on a natural three (3) or lower.

GAMBLER

“Never tell me the odds.”

This spacer rerolls BUSTS (but must accept the new roll). In addition, once per Breather, when this spacer fails a Test or Resist, they Gain the Edge on their next Test or Resist.

DO-OVER

“Let’s try that again.”

When this spacer BUSTS, they may Deploy another item as a free action.

CONTINGENCY

“Moving on to Plan B.”

While FLANKING, every spacer in this spacer’s crew scores a Critical Hit on a natural 19 or 20.

PREDATOR

“Clever girl.”

This spacer may choose to deal SHOCK damage rather than BALLISTIC damage when making unarmed attacks against lifeforms. In addition, this spacer Gains the Edge on TAKEDOWNS.

PRESSURE POINT

“It’s down here, where the shoulder meets the neck.”

Before making an attack, this spacer may choose to ignore their target’s Damage Threshold [DT]. If they do, this spacer’s Damage Threshold [DT] is set to zero (0) until the beginning of their next turn.

RECKLESS

“Yippee ki yay, Mister Falcon.”

Attacks targeting this spacer made by HIDDEN or FLANKING enemies do not Gain The Edge.

PARANOID

“The trees are talking.”

When this spacer moves between points of cover while Hidden, they may use their reaction to ignore the associated Reflex Test to remain Hidden so long as they end their turn within cover.

SILENT RUNNING

“It makes sense.”

This spacer may slot one (1) additional Modification [MOD].

BUILT DIFFERENT

“Batteries not included.”

This spacer and items they Deploy cannot be the target of Digital Implements and they cannot slot any Modifications [MOD].

CLEAN LIVING

“Maybe they were born with it…”

When this spacer is under the effect of a drug or Medical Implement [M-IT], they Gain the Edge on all Tests and Resists. However, when this spacer is not under the effect of a drug or Medical Implement [M-IT], they Lose the Edge on all Tests and Resists.

JUNKIE

“Once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.”

When performing a RAM, any vehicle this spacer is piloting has its LIFT score increased by ten (10) and any starship this spacer is piloting counts as ten (10) mmu heavier.

SIZE MATTERS

“We’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

This spacer may use strength or aptitude in place of cool for Tests relating to intimidation or interrogation (Star Guide’s [SG] discretion).

ADVANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES

“I’m gonna teach you to speak English with this f***ing knife.”

So you’ve died. Kicked the bucket. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of your career! A spacer that has had the Natural Death status applied to them may take this Gimmick to have their consciousness rebooted into a new vessel.

UNNATURAL LIFE

“We have the technology.”

TIER TWO GIMMICKS

(OBTAINED AT LEVEL FIVE)

The number this spacer needs to score a critical hit with edged martial weapon attacks is reduced by one (this effect can stack). When this spacer hits with a martial weapon attack, until the beginning of their next turn, they may use Implements [IT] as a minor action. In addition, once per Breather, this spacer may use the Phantom Protocol Digital Implement [D-IT] without any necessary requirements.

SPACE NINJA

“While you were partying, I studied the blade.”

When this spacer uses the Post-Mortem Medical Implement [M-IT], they may use the Facsimile Medical Implement [M-IT] on the same target without any necessary requirements.

REANIMATOR

“Who's going to believe a talking head?”

When this spacer heals a target with the Salve Medical Implement [M-IT], the target restores an additional number of Health Points [HP] equal to this spacer’s aptitude modifier.

HEALER

“Don’t worry, I’m a doctor.”

When this spacer breaks through electronic security with the Crack Digital Implement [D-IT], they may use their reaction to use another Digital Implement [D-IT] against the same target.

HACKER

“I’m in.”

When this spacer fixes a target with the Repair Technical Implement [T-IT], they restore an additional amount of Condition [CD] equal to this spacer’s aptitude modifier.

MECHANIC

“All in a day’s work.”

Before making an attack, this spacer may choose to subtract five (5) from their attack roll to deal an additional five (5) damage.

OVERKILL

“One fist of iron and the other one steel.”

When an enemy deals damage to this spacer and the spacer has not yet dealt damage to the enemy, they may use their reaction to make a counterattack.

GET EVEN

“They drew first blood.”

This spacer is resistant to the PRONE and STUNNED statuses. In addition, when this spacer becomes DOWNED, they replenish a use of RALLY.

INDOMITABLE

“Witness me!”

When this spacer suffers an Injury Level [IL], they may use their reaction to regain a number of Health Points [HP] equal to their endurance modifier.

PAIN TOLERANCE

“I eat spacers like you for breakfast.”

This spacer gains access to the Tier 2 Implements [IT] for a Rig of their choice. In addition, Implements [IT] Programmed into the chosen Rig replenish after a Breather at no extra cost (this applies to only 1 Rig).

JAILBREAK

“There is no spoon.”

When this spacer chooses to apply the UNCONSCIOUS status to themselves for the duration of a Breather, they may restore all Health Points [HP] and Injury Levels [IL].

HEAVY SLEEPER

“Nighty night.”

This spacer may HOLD a Zone as a minor action. In addition, when this spacer hits with a counterattack, the target's movement speed becomes zero (0) until the beginning of their next turn.

LOCKDOWN

“Where do you think you’re going?”

When this spacer hits with an attack, they may use a minor action to cause the target to Lose The Edge on all attacks that do not target this spacer until the beginning of this spacer’s next turn.

DRAW FIRE

“Come and get it!”

When this spacer makes an attack with a Deployed weapon, they may make an additional attack using another Deployed weapon as a minor action. They do not add their associated modifier to the second attack roll (perception or reflex).

AKIMBO

“Double your pleasure, double your fun.”

When this spacer makes a CUBE weapon attack with a ranged weapon they may use a minor action to make an additional CUBE weapon attack.

MAG DUMP

“CON-TACT!!!”

This spacer may make thrown martial weapon attacks as a minor action.

JUGGLER

“Crusty jugglers…”

When Deploying a sniper rifle, this spacer Gains The Edge on attacks made against targets within six (6) units.

HEADSHOT

“360 No-Scope.”

When making an unarmed attack, this spacer may choose to instead GRAB the target and may use their reflex modifier in place of strength when taking their Test. In addition, when this spacer is Deploying another individual, they may attempt a TAKEDOWN and they may use their reflex modifier in place of strength when taking their Test. 

SUBMISSION

“Rear naked choke.”

When this spacer SPRINTS, until the beginning of their next turn, all attacks targeting them Lose the Edge.

HARD TO HIT

“Serpentine, serpentine!”

This spacer Gains the Edge on ranged weapon attacks against targets within melee range.

POINT BLANK

“Dodge this.”

This spacer Gains the Edge on cool Tests related to making friends. In addition, when making a cool Test or Resist related to making friends, this spacer may roll their modifier die twice, combining the results.

HARD TO HATE

“I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

This spacer Gains The Edge on Initiative Tests. In addition, at the beginning of combat, this spacer may Deploy a weapon as a free action.

QUICKDRAW

“They’ll call you the fastest gun in the system.”

For every inflicted Injury Level [IL], this spacer’s attacks deal two (2) additional damage.

FLESH WOUND

“‘Tis but a scratch.”

When this spacer’s weapon goes HAYWIRE, before damage is dealt, they may use their reaction to throw it up to six (6) units away. In addition, when a grenade lands within one (1) unit of this spacer, they may take a reflex Test. On a success, they may use their reaction to throw the grenade up to six (6) units before it detonates.

CRISIS AVERTED

“That was a close one.”

When this spacer rolls a 20 or higher on any attack made within melee range, the target must succeed a strength Resist or receive the PRONE status.

TO THEIR KNEES

“This… is… DEADSTAR!”

This spacer may RACK as a minor action and RELOAD as a reaction.

TACTICAL RELOAD

“Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.”

This spacer Gains The Edge on attacks targeting uniformed soldiers and corpos.

FIGHT THE POWER

“Apes together… strong.”

When this spacer rolls a 20 or higher on an attack roll, the target must succeed on a cool Resist or receive the ROUTED status.

MENACING PRESENCE

“I must break you.”

When this spacer RALLIES, they may take an additional two (2) minor actions. In addition, this spacer Gains the Edge on reflex Resists.

IT’S ALL IN THE REFLEXES

“This is gonna take crackerjack timing.”

This spacer may swap their weapon and armor attachments as a minor action during combat. Each swap performed requires the use of one (1) minor action. In addition, outside of combat, this spacer may perform alterations on weapons and armor provided they have the proper time and equipment (Star Guide [SG] discretion).

HOT-SWAP

“Ideal for quick, discreet intervention.”

TIER THREE GIMMICKS

(OBTAINED AT LEVEL SEVEN)

Once per Breather, this spacer may choose to succeed on any Test or Resist that they would otherwise fail.

WILD CARD

“Guys, why aren’t the brakes working?”

When this spacer chooses this Gimmick they may select one from the listed weapon types: Ballistic Guns, Laser Guns, Martial, or Unique. When this spacer hits with an attack using a weapon of the selected type, they deal an additional five (5) damage. When this spacer rolls a natural five (5) or lower on d20 attack roll using the selected weapon type, the weapon BUSTS.

GO FOR BROKE

“I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I’m all out of bubblegum.”

This spacer may slot two (2) additional Modifications [MOD]. This spacer is immune to TOXIC damage; however, they are vulnerable to SHOCK damage. In addition, they count as both a bot and a lifeform for the purposes of being the target of Implements [IT] and using consumables.

MILLION DOLLAR SPACER

“I’d buy that for a dollar!”

When this spacer uses the Facsimile Medical Implement [M-IT] on a target, rather than choosing between the Biped, Quadruped, or Winged stat blocks they may instead choose to use the target’s stat block.

BIOMANCER

“It’s aliiiiiiiiive!”

When this spacer rolls a 20 or higher on an attack roll with an edged martial weapon, the target must succeed on an endurance Resist or receive the BLEED OUT status.

ALREADY DEAD

“Before you even hit the ground.”

When an attack targeting this spacer misses, if the attacker is within melee range, this spacer may use their reaction to force the target to roll the attack against themself. In addition, if an explosive lands in any unit adjacent to this spacer, they may use their reaction to redirect the explosive up to three (3) units away before it detonates.

RETURN TO SENDER

“Right back at you.”

Before this spacer makes their perception roll to hit with a ranged weapon attack, they may choose to Lose the Edge. If they do, the weapon deals double damage on a hit.

HIP FIRE

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

When this spacer rolls a 20 or higher on an attack roll using a blunt martial weapon, the target must succeed on a reflex Resist or the weapon DEMOLISHES and they receive the PRONE status.

HAMMER TIME

“Stop!”

The number this spacer needs to score a critical hit is reduced by one (this effect can stack). When this spacer scores a critical hit, the target must succeed on a cool Resist or receive the ROUTED status. 

BORN KILLER

“Cold blooded, clean, methodical and thorough.”

When this spacer’s Injury Level [IL] reaches CRITICAL, they do not receive the DOWNED status. In addition, once per Breather, when this spacer is reduced to zero (0) Health Points [HP], they are instead reduced to one (1).

LAST STAND

“I ain’t got time to bleed.”

When this spacer is DOWNED they may use their reaction to DOWN a target within one (1) unit of them.

DRAG ‘EM TO HELL

“Get over here!”

Every time this spacer takes damage their Damage Threshold [DT] is raised by two (2) until the beginning of their next turn.

SHRUG IT OFF

“It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

If this spacer has Training in martial throwable weapons, they may treat any object of reasonable size and weight as a martial throwable weapon (deferring to the Star Guide’s [SG] discretion on reasonable objects, their Design, and damage).

IMPROVISE, ADAPT, OVERCOME

“I was out of bullets.”

Once per breather, this spacer may attempt an aptitude or cool Test to convince a target (non-spacer) to forget the last 30 seconds (in game). 

DEJA VU

“Forget-me-now.”

When this spacer deals SHOCK, HEAT, CHILL, or TOXIC damage, the target must make an endurance Resist. On a failure, the target receives the status corresponding to the damage type they received (SHOCK = HINDERED, HEAT = BURNED, CHILL = FROZEN, TOXIC = POISONED).

MASTER OF ELEMENTS

“Water, fire, earth, air.”

PRESTIGE TIER GIMMICKS

(OBTAINED AT LEVEL NINE)

This spacer gains immunity to RADIATION damage. In addition, when this spacer has no weapons Deployed, their unarmed attacks deal RADIATION damage rather than BALLISTIC damage and gain an attack range of six (6) units.

SUNSHINE

“You make me happy when skies are gray.”

This spacer may take an additional minor action on each of their turns and an additional reaction during each round.

ENLIGHTENED

“So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.”

When this spacer hits with an attack against a target in melee range, the attack SHREDS.

HOLE PUNCHER

“Screw you!”

As long as this spacer has at least five (5) Modification [MOD] slots filled, their maximum Health Points [HP] increase by ten (10).

CYBORG

“Part man. Part machine. All spacer.”

When this spacer inflicts the BLEED OUT status with an edged martial weapon they may CLEAVE as a free action.

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

“Fear the reaper.”

When this spacer GRAZES a target with a weapon attack, they may make an additional weapon attack as a free action.

BULLSEYE

“One hundred and eighty.”

When this spacer is dealt damage, they may use their reaction to become immune to all damage until the beginning of their next turn.

COMFORTABLY NUMB

“Pain don’t hurt.”

This spacer’s Reputation Score resets to neutral with all factions and they may assume a new identity.

BEGIN AGAIN

“All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”

When this spacer rolls a 25 or higher on an attack roll made with a blunt martial weapon the target must succeed on an endurance Resist or receive the UNCONSCIOUS status.

BONK

“Two hits: I hit you, you hit the floor.”

This spacer is immune to VOID damage and cannot receive the NATURAL DEATH status.

“The abyss will gaze back into you.”
