DESCRIPTION:
Chameiro is a tidally locked desert planet. Now a state of decline, Chameiro was once the most contentious land in the system. Chameiro boasts impressive deposits of uranium and fossil fuel, which were vital for an early Humanity’s energy needs in Deadstar. The ISSC (Humanity’s first government in Deadstar) launched a disastrous colonization effort on Chameiro soon after colonizing Æntez. The Human/Dwarka war which followed lasted fourteen years and ended with Humanity’s surrender and the exiling of the Bek to Nymisto. Today, Humanity and the Dwarka share an uneasy arrangement, both highly defensive and suspicious of the other.
As Humanity spread further into the system, reliance on Chameiro’s resources dwindled. The mining and refining companies lobbied the governments of Chameiro to place restrictions on imports, forcing the business and residents of Chameiro (primarily miners and employees of mining and refining companies) to purchase only technology and energy extracted and developed locally. Because of the trade restrictions, Chameiro’s technology remains somewhat antiquated, mainly running on fossil fuel (as opposed to the much more system-standard nuclear and renewable power).
Because of its tidally-locked status, the solar-facing hemisphere of Chameiro experiences darkness only through a regular solar eclipse caused by Æntez’s orbit. This cosmic event is called “Shab-Tulani” by Chameiro Natives. The Shab-Tulani is a week of darkness where the subterranean inhabitants of the planet resurface, typically in violent and chaotic fashion.
Outside Humanity’s handful of remaining walled cities, Chameiro’s lack of government presence provides the perfect home for anarchists, profiteers, and outlaws who seek opportunity in the form of small frontier-style settlements and mobile nomadic tribes spread across the unforgiving desert. Having lost its role as Humanity’s supplier of resources, Chameiro has found a second life as a haven for those who do not conform to strict social rules and a playground for those who seek adventure.
