Kiléban has long been home to the native Añato people, an island dwelling Vit-Oko culture who originally settled the collection of islands (that now comprise Kiléban). The 2,000 or so islands, islets, and cays of Kiléban stretch far south off the eastern coast of Logobadi in the Inari Bay.

Roughly fifty years before Humanity’s arrival to Deadstar, the Kotensurai Dynasty had colonized Kiléban. The Kotensurai domination of the island nation instilled a resilient spirit and a longing for independence in the Añato people. During the Kørtisian Unionist Party (KUP)’s cultural revolution, the Añato saw an opportunity to free themselves from their Kotensurai overlords. The Kiléban revolution began when the Añato natives united under the “Republic of Kiléban,” a new unionist-aligned party with the primary goal of ousting foreign rulership.

In 3105, the Terror in Inari Bay marked the end of the Kiléban revolution. In the months preceding, the Republic of Kiléban mounted a successful coup d’état of the Logobadi Imperial Dynasty (LID)-controlled parliament. As Kotensurai naval reinforcements launched from Ukunayami, the KUP responded by sending naval carriers of their own. The Terror in Inari Bay lasted three months and accounted for the largest loss of sentient life in recorded Kørt history (pre Kørtisian Conflict). Though casualties were heavy on both sides, the conflict ended with KUP forces withdrawing from the region and installment of a permanent Kotensurai military blockade on Kiléban.

Since their defeat, the KUP has attempted to assist the people of Kiléban to little avail. After the end of the Kørtisian Conflict, control of the Inari Bay and by extension, the Kiléban blockade, passed to the United Kørtisian Trade Alliance (UKTA). The UKTA withdrew most of its military presence from the waters surrounding Kiléban, preferring to instead create an “invisible” sanction-base blockade to squeeze the resistance from the population. Due to the extreme economic strain brought about by the sanctions, the island nation has remained incredibly impoverished and generally cut off from greater Kørt. Even faced with extreme hardship, the Kiléban people remain steadfast in their support for the unionist Republic of Kiléban and their aspiration to one day become free from imperial control.
