AUTOS
Autos are the most numerous vehicle found in the DEADSTAR system and make up a majority of land-based transportation.
When PILOTING a vehicle, an individual assumes the vehicle’s listed statistics for associated Tests and Resists. Attackers may not target a vehicle’s pilot unless it has the MALFUNCTIONING status or has the Exposed attribute.
While PILOTING an Auto, spacers may take the following actions:
ACCELERATE: As a minor action, a pilot may increase their SPEED by any number up to their ACCL score.
DECELLERATE: As a minor action, a pilot may lower their current SPEED. This can be any value up to a maximum of their HANDLING score.
BRAKE: As a major action, a pilot may halve (0.5x) their current SPEED (rounded up). If the vehicle’s SPEED after BRAKING is higher than its HANDLING score, the pilot must succeed on a endurance Resist or lower the vehicle’s Condition [CD] by an amount equal to their BRAKING SPEED.
TURN: As a major action, a pilot may alter their trajectory. To do so, the pilot may move their Auto a number of Quadrants left or right equal to their HANDLING score (subtracting this number from your SPEED) before traveling a number of Quadrants in the original direction equal to their remaining SPEED.
If an Auto’s SPEED is higher than its HANDLING when attempting to take a TURN, it’s pilot must succeed a reflex Resist or FLIP the vehicle.
Auto Terms:
SPEED: The total number of Quadrants a vehicle moves per round. This score can be raised by ACCELERATING and lowered by BRAKING or HARD BRAKING.
ENGINE: An Auto’s method of propulsion: ATOMIC, COMBUSTION, or ELECTRIC.
ATOMIC ENGINES excel at long distance travel and can reach the highest TOP SPEED on average but often have lower ACCL scores.
COMBUSTION ENGINES are well-rounded and perform well at short and long distance travel.
ELECTRIC ENGINES excel at short distance travel and tend to have the highest ACCL scores but lower TOP SPEED.
TOP SPEED: The maximum SPEED an Auto can safely travel.
ACCL: The maximum increment of speed an Auto can achieve in a round.
TRAVEL: The maximum distance (in giga units) an Auto can travel with one tank of fuel.
TANK CAP: The maximum capacity of an Auto’s fuel tank.
HANDLING: The maximum speed an Auto is able to make a ninety degree (90º) turn. Also determines how well the vehicle can maintain control while BRAKING.
